Estonia Highly Values NATO-Georgia Partnership Relations

At a meeting of the Group of Georgia’s Friends in Berlin today, Foreign Minister Urmas Paet said that it is important to value existing and well-functioning NATO partnership relations. “A good example of this is NATO-Georgia partnership. Georgia is also a respected partner nation in NATO operations,” said Foreign Minister Paet.

During the meeting, Paet acknowledged Georgia’s progress in carrying out political, security, and defence-related reforms. “For the alliance, Georgia’s contributions to Euro-Atlantic security and the Afghanistan mission are extremely valuable,” he noted.

The Estonian foreign minister said that it is essential to maximise opportunities for co-operation within the framework of the NATO-Georgia Commission. “Discussions on many other topics in addition to NATO-Georgia relations should take place in the NATO-Georgia Commission—for example, discussions about regional and European security and new threats,” said Paet.
