Foreign Minister Urmas Paet: Georgia is Important Partner to NATO

At a meeting of the NATO and Georgia foreign ministers in Berlin, Foreign Minister Urmas Paet said that Georgia is a valuable partner nation in NATO operations. Paet added that integration with NATO is Georgia’s primary foreign and security policy goal.

“NATO decided back at the Bucharest summit that NATO’s door would remain open to Georgia. Currently Georgia is making one of the biggest contributions per capita to the Afghanistan mission, altogether close to 1 000 soldiers,” he said.

Paet stated that Georgia has made tremendous progress in reforming its society. “In taking future steps, it is essential to remain committed to Georgia’s territorial integrity,” he added.

Foreign Minister Paet confirmed Estonia’s support for Georgia’s NATO membership prospects.
